| | About vehicle Power brakes and steering
the speedster belonged to studebakers newly revived top-line president series. Its v8, 185hp engine came with dual exhausts and a choice of manual transmission with overdrive or automatic at no extra cost. Power brakes and steering were also standard. The sporty white-on-black gauges set into the metallic dashboard included a tachometer to monitor rpm. Motor life magazine declared that the speedster acted more like a sports car than any other hardtop.
sporty looks
the speedsters front end had heavy chrome treatment, including bumper guards that bore foglamps. Two different speedster body colors, including odd choices such as lemon and lime or pink and gray, were divided by butter-knife side chrome trim. The speedsters interior sported color-keyed diamond-quilted leather-and-vinyl upholstery and white sidewall tires enclosed simulated wire wheel covers The speedster was a fast and sporty two-door hardtop with a price tag too sleep for the studebaker line. It expired after only one season. |
