Gabriel voisin, aeronautical pioneer and dedicated art lover, turned to car production when his aircraft factory ran out of orders after world war i. Voisin. With his modernist architect friend le corbusier, shared a form-is-function aesthetic that he expressed with his factory coachwork, built on a modular principle that included such idiosyncracies as luggage boxes on the running boards.

Voisin C27 Aerodyne - 1935-1936
Gabriel voisin claimed to have built a successful flying machine before the wright brothers, and many aerodynamic considerations were evident in his designs. The aerodyne, which first appeared on the c25 chassis at the 1934 paris salon, created a sensation with its airfoil-section coachwork and its sliding roof, which was opened by a tiny twin-cylinder pneumatic engine hidden in the trunk.
