Also made under license in west germany (as the neckar), yugoslavia and india, it won a reputation for being the car that wouldnt die. it was still being made in india during the 1970s.

Launched in 1932, the fiat 508 ballila was very much a car of its period, a basic and dependable family sedan whose simple flathead power unit made up in reliability what it sacrificed in performance. It even gained notoriety in some circles for being named after a youth movement sponsored by mussolini (a theoiy that has since been debunked).

Small, medium or large fiat had an automobile from the top to the bottom end of the spectrum during the 1920s. Among the models that it presented during the last years of prosperity before the great depression was the 520, which promised a degree of luxury at an affordable price for a middle-class clientele. With 20,996 produced over only two years, this model was a substantial success.
